Send Momma to the Slam

At Eye on Life Online Magazine we have published poetry by poets from across the United States. Some of the talented poets I have corresponded with have fallen into a particular demographic – female poets who do not currently read their work in public, between 25 and 45 years old, with small children to care for. We have chosen four of these women to send to a major poetry slam so that they can be inspired to read their work in public and contribute more to the world of poetry.

Many Thanks!

Need and Objective:
We need these women to read their poetry out loud and these poets need to be inspired to do so. Women who are both parent and poet represent a changing vital element in our society, offering a unique window on our culture through their own lives as well as the experience of raising children in today’s world. I believe it is important for their poetry to be heard as well as read, because I believe their perspective is vital to us as a people and I believe that poetry is a unique medium for the transmission of ideas and emotions. These voices should be heard: therefore they should be encouraged to speak. We will send these women to see poets compete on stage. I believe that this exposure will inspire them to become more vocal as well as more creatively productive. Without the your assistance none of these women would be able to travel to a major poetry event. We appreciate your generosity.
