Dear Friends of the Arts,
The BCCA is gearing up for an
action-packed
Fall season, with tons of exciting schedule and
organizational changes!
This newsletter contains:
*an invitation to our Fall Open House Week
and a few notes about our Fall course registration,
*a quick organizational update,
*a calendar of our September events, and
*an appeal for support: simple ways you can
support
the BCCA.
Rest up this Labor Day weekend - then come in
throughout Open House Week to kick off a new
semester at the BCCA.
Fall Course Registration
Join us for Open House Week:
Tuesday, September 7th - Monday, September
13th
Open House Week is our time to debut an incredible
line-up of new courses, in addition to dozens of
returning
favorites. During Open House Week, most classes
will
have free viewing and many will have free participation
for first-timers - all to tempt you to explore new styles
of art. Even if you have been coming to the BCCA
for
months, you are considered a "first-timer" to any class
that is new to you. Check for notes about free
demos and classes on our website. Click "See Today's
Class Schedule" under Quick Links, and view details
about any class by clicking on its class code (e.g.
CD053).
Course registration has already begun! Find
the courses that
are right for you, and reserve your spot today at great
discounts. Our online schedule will be completely
updated by Monday, which allows you to:
"Search Our Classes" by program, instructor name, or
course title on the homepage,
Or "See today's class schedule" and search by date.
The printed course catalog will be available by Tuesday
afternoon. You may download the catalog by Sunday
night by clicking the following
link. (The link will not be active until Sunday)
In the meantime, check out our Fall Course
Schedules (Excel format):

Note: The BCCA will not be running any classes on
Labor Day, although you may drop by or contact us by
phone between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. if you would
like to pre-register for a class or get more information.
If you cannot reach us, please leave a detailed
message in the general voicemail mailbox and someone
will get back to you by the next day.

Organizational Update |
|
After a busy summer, filled with many positive changes,
the BCCA is stepping it up a notch, and we have some
great news that we'd like to quickly highlight:
1. The BCCA is here to stay! We are
in
the final stages of the Building Purchase.
The BCCA also has a
revised budget and Artistic Program Plan, and if our
proposed Fall programs are well attended, our
organization will finally be able to stand on its own feet
and make ends meet. Your registrations and frequent
patronage can make this a significant turn-around
semester for the BCCA.
2. After a long and arduous 1+ year process, BCCA has finally received its full tax exemption from the IRS! The IRS has granted us tax exempt status since February 3, 2003, the date of our incorporation. This means that all donations and contributions received from that date on are fully tax deductible. Our official status is a non-profit, tax exempt [501(c)3] public charity [509(a)2]. This means that we can finally apply for the wide array of external assistance via foundations, grants, and endowments. In anticipation to this moment (a month ago) we hired Sarai Yaseen as our Grant Officer, and she has made substantial progress in the grant research and writing departments. Thanks to her efforts, we have recently began applications for grants to cover the costs of installing handicap accessibility into our basement level, and we are scheduled to complete these implementation by January 2005.
3. The BCCA welcomed Jeff Robinson as
Executive Director in late July. The three original
founders remain on board, with Dan Y. Marshall as
President and Artistic Director, Olaf Bleck as CFO & Facilities Director, and
Vlad Selsky as Director of Development.
4. This past week we refinished our dance
floors, optimizing them for our many styles of
dance and movement practiced here, especially for our
Ballet, Modern & Jazz dancers. They're beautiful and
they're ready for action! In addition to the floors we have re-painted the basement hallways, installed wall-to-wall mirrors in Studio 6 (great for private lessons & practices), and performed general repairs and cleanup. We hope you enjoy our upgraded facility, and thank you for being an integral part of our progress.
5. Early this month, we will be hosting the first
ever BCCA Community Meeting. The BCCA
would like to hear from its neighbors and fellow
Brookline citizens to answer: How can we better serve
our community? This is your opportunity to meet our
staff, hear about our goals, and contribute to the
future plans of the BCCA.
Date & Time: Sunday, September 12th 5:30-6:30
p.m. Refreshments served. See listing below for
more details.
6. September Entertainment License
Hearing:
The BCCA will appear before the Brookline Board of
Selectmen on Tuesday, September 21st at 8:00
p.m. to ask for extended hours of operation and
relaxed police detail requirements. We thank you for
your support at the past hearing, and we look forward
to having even more supporters in attendance at this
September hearing. Letters of support may be directed
to Dan
Y. Marshall

Join the BCCA Street Team |
|
We know you're busy... but everyone has time to
join
the BCCA Street Team. One of the most important
tasks for the BCCA each semester is to get the word
out about our great classes. There are many Brookline
residents who still have no idea we exist! Therefore,
we've designed a team to fix this problem, and we need
your help.
Joining the Team is easy.
1. Sign-up at the front desk at the BCCA or
email Emily@bccaonline.com, Subject: Street Team
2. We'll call or e-mail you sometime this month
for a one-time volunteer opportunity. Projects
can be as simple as distributing catalogs in Brookline for
a couple of hours or taking a stack of catalogs to put in
your apartment building or office lobby. We'll provide
the maps and a list of locations where you can leave
BCCA information, or you can suggest a location that
we might not have thought of.
3. Earn a coupon to attend a FREE BCCA class
or
event in exchange for all of your hard work. No
commitment after that. We'll take your name off the list
if you'd like.

Support the BCCA |
|
Thank you all for your continued support of the BCCA.
Our students and patrons have helped us considerably
in past months by donating to the BCCA Building Fund
and by providing much needed equipment such as filing
cabinets, computer equipment and more.
The BCCA still has many projects that need your
support. In addition to joining our Street Team,
become
a regular volunteer and dedicate some of your free time
to a great cause. Contact Emily to learn
more about how you can help in these capacities and
more!
Lastly, you can always support the BCCA by using the
Forward Email
option at the bottom of this page to tell your friends
and family about our classes, workshops, and events.
We always love to see
new faces!
Thanks and best wishes for fall
from the BCCA
