As Winter turns to Spring, BCCA is adding new
classes and revamping past ones. Sundays keep getting better with a new and explosive
lineup of African drumming and dance, beginning on March 7th. Join
Sidi Mohamed 'Joh' Camara for weekly Rhythms
of West Africa classes, followed by DeAma Battle's African
Rhythm Dance . Joh will be teaching a special Dansa drumming
class as part of Women's Day on March 21st. Dansa (Embracing
Womanhood) is a rhythm played to challenge women to show their honor
to their family and to show that they are ready for marriage.
Dancing to this rhythm is a part of an initiation ceremony for
embracing womanhood. Originally from Kita and called Diaoura, Dansa
was the name given to this act of honor in Kasso, which is in
Northern Mali. Take a detour from Africa to Japan, and
experience the awesome Tsuji-Ryu Kobudo: Samurai
Taiko Drumming class, now on a new time and day, every Tuesday
from 8:30 - 9:30 pm. Returning for a 2nd session of tango classes
are AnaLinda Marcus and Shalom Volchok, who will offer two levels of
classes beginning on Saturday, March 13th - Fundamentals
of Argentine Tango and Continuing
Tango - Feel the Magic! . Call BCCA or visit our web site for up-to-date
schedule additions and changes. Your attendance is the number one
factor in securing the future and success of the BCCA.
