    Summer is almost here, and the BCCA has a hot line-up of concerts, workshops, and performances throughout the month of June that will carry us through the end of spring. We've also got some great new classes starting in June, and our complete Summer Session will be starting the week of July 4th. Read on for more info.

    Can't wait 'til summer? Register today for the BCCA Summer Arts Program, offering creative two-week sessions throughout July and August for kids and teens ages 4 to 18. Program themes include drama, dance, martial arts, music, and more! Plus, we're offering sliding scale pricing to make it affordable for everyone.

    Tap and Tray - Thursday, June 3rd

    Little Rose's Tap Cabaret presents...
    Kurt Albert & Klaus Bleis, the German tap sensations coming to Boston via Chicago and NYC. Also joining Rose are international dance star Joshua Hilberman, physical comedian Bob E. Thomas, Irish Step dancer Kieran Jordan, and Dr. Venus, the tap dancing neuropathologist. Live music to be provided by Mark Shilansky on piano, Keala Kaumeheiwa on bass, and vocalist Patrice Monahan.

    An amazing night of workshops and classes, followed by special performances by the incredible young dancers of Salsa con Clase.

    SATURDAY, June 5th

    Getting Comfortable Close with AnaLinda and Shalom
    We aim in these two classes to give Advanced Beginners and Intermediate level Tango dancers basic functionality in Close Embrace, the unique and magically intimate dance of the clubs in Buenos Aires and around the world.
    3:00-4:30 p.m.
    This class will concentrate on the little things that make the dance feel like a private language between partners using tiny and linear elements.
    4:30-6:00 p.m.
    Again, beginning Close Embrace but introducing the circular or turning elements with an emphasis on musicality and navigating the dance floor.

    SUNDAY, June 6th

    Standing at Sinai: Jewish Yoga Workshop
    Hanna Tiferet Siegel and Nina Moliver will lead the second in a two-part Sunday workshop series on June 6th, taking us from the holiday of Shavuot and beyond. Yoga postures will be taught using the Iyengar method. Students will breathe, chant, meditate, stretch, balance, learn and celebrate. All levels of Yoga practice and Jewish knowledge are welcome. Mats and props are provided.

    Klezmer Cafe Concert & Jam
    Aaron Kula presents "A Klezmer Cafe Concert" by the Boston Klezmer Company. Enjoy a coffee, sing and dance along while this great group performs traditional and hip Jewish instrumental Freylachs, horas, and more. The band invites you to bring your own instrument so you may join in after the performance for a group jam session. Music will be handed out, including popular Klezmer Nigunnim and Yiddish songs.

    Hsueh-tze Lee presents the BCCA Blue Milonga, a uniquely romantic and mesmerizing evening of dance. There will be a one-hour lesson, followed by a night of dancing until 1:00 a.m.

    Classics Open Mic & Sing Along
    Join singer and MC Paul Jordan on Sundays, June 13th and June 27th, for a great BCCA bimonthly event, featuring acclaimed pianist Richard De Mone, Leon Alperin on drums, and other past and present singing stars. Come listen to and sing favorite showtunes and opera from the 30s, 40s, 50s, & 60s. Plus, skip ahead to the weekend of June 27th listing to read about a special Classics Open Mic featuring Honorable Menshen, an a cappella group.

    Organic Tango Workshops - Boston Premiere!!
    Open Embrace figures while dancing close embrace
    Intermediate Level Workshops
    3:30-5:00 p.m.
    Do you feel like doing more with less space? This is the class for you! In the first half we will work on understanding the concept behind open embrace dancing including incorporating sacadas, baridas. The second half will apply the concepts to close embrace.
    5:00-6:30 p.m.
    Breaking the embrace yet staying connected. Come and see how it can be done, with warm-up exercises borrowed from modern dance.
    Admission: Pre-registration prices until June 12th: $20 for 1 class, $35 for both.

    Moroccan Drumming Workshop
    Johara, BCCA belly-dance instructor, presents "Moroccan and Andalusian Rhythms with Boujemaa," a workshop for drummers and dancers who are interested in adding these rich and beautiful rhythms to your Middle Eastern repertoire. Bring a drum (doumbeq, riq, bendir, or other) and bring sagaat or finger cymbals if you have them.
    Time: 4:30-6:30 p.m.
    Admission: $40 (+$5 drum rental)
    Pre-registration required. Class is limited to 16 participants.

    JuliaOnTap's Tap Jam
    Join Julia Boynton and the Zachary Kreus Trio for an evening of live music and dancing - The last Tap Jam of the until September! The event starts with classes for advanced beginner or intermediate levels, followed by a beginner/intermediate jam. They'll wrap it up with a showcase of some of the best tap dancers in Boston. A must see!

    New June Classes at BCCA
    Mark your calendars for the BCCA Summer Open House Week, starting June 28th! Open House Week will launch our new Summer Session of classes, including many free demos and free participation for first-timers to encourage you all to try something new at the BCCA. Look for our complete Summer Catalog by the end of June, and check out our website to see the most up-to-date class info before the printed schedule comes out. We hope you enjoy our Jazzed-up Summer session!

    Until then, our Spring semester will run through the end of June, and there are still plenty of classes to drop-in on. Here are a few new classes that we've added that start this month.

    Hatha Yoga for Everyone (HF070)

    "Eddie Brown's 'BS Chorus' Repertoire" with Carol Efron-Flier (CD124)
    A 3-class workshop for advanced dancers
    Eddie Brown's 'BS Chorus' consists of two choruses of small, intricate footwork. This fast-paced class will explore one of Eddie Brown's most cherished pieces of Tap dance choreography.
    Dates: Thurs 6/24, Thurs 7/1, & Thurs 7/8, Time: 6:00-7:30 p.m.

    Bhangra - North Indian (Punjabi) Folk Dance with Boston Bhangra (WD063)
    Come dance Bhangra, a lively dance style with pounding rhythmic beats, whose influence can be found in new Hip Hop songs much of the music from the northern parts of India.

    Tai Chi with Huan Zhang (MA001)
    New Day (Moved from Tuesdays to Wednesdays)
    Yang style Tai Chi is an internal martial art which originated in China and is widely practiced for health, exercise and relaxation benefits. It develops breathing, flexibility and endurance. It also promotes balance and concentration. Routine practice reduces stress and promotes integration of mind, body and spirit.

    SALSAlort - Latin Dance & Fitness Company classes with Javier Salort (HF034, WD026 & WD027)
    After suffering a injuries from a car accident, Javier has chosen to take a leave of absence from teaching his weekly Monday classes at the BCCA, and will return this Fall. In the interim, he will offer three Latin dance workshops on Sunday June 20th, July 18th, and August 22nd at the BCCA. Stay tuned to our home page workshop listings for more updates. The BCCA management and volunteers wish Javier a speedy and complete recovery and look forward to his future offerings.
