    The BCCA has an incredible line-up for the next two weeks, including a Disco Party, music concerts, an Urban Dance Funk Fest, and more! All events are all ages, so bring the whole family down to the BCCA for great music and entertainment!

    "Bringing Africa to Brookline"
    -Sunday, April 25th


    African dance and drumming are the essential fabrics of African culture. Join the BCCA this Sunday for an event that will explore this rich and diverse culture through a unique collection of workshops. Workshop topics include classes in Afro/Brazilian Dance, African Rhythm Dance, West African Dance for Kids, & Senegalese Dancing, as well as Malian Drumming & Senegalese Drumming. All classes are appropriate for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students!

    Schedule:
    12noon - 7:00pm AFRICAN MARKET
    11:30am WELCOME
    Classes:
    11:30am - 1pm Afro/Cuban and Afro/Brazilian Dancing with Cornell Coley
    1:00pm - 2:30pm Malian Drumming [Djembe & DunDun] with Sidi Mohamed "Joh" Camara (A weekly Sunday class!)
    2:45pm - 4:15pm African Rhythm Dance with DeAma Battle (A weekly Sunday class!)
    5:00pm - 6:30pm Senegalese Drumming [Sabar] with Lamine Toure
    6:45pm - 8:45pm Senegalese Dancing with Mariama Basse
    Kids Class:
    2:30pm - 4pm West African Dancing with Akila Stanley

    Admission:
    In advance: $12 per class/$50 for entire day*
    At the door: $14 per class/$60 for entire day*

    *The Kids class is not included in the admission for the entire day - It is charged $12/door ($10/advance).

    I am the World Trade Center Concert
    Mass Live Events presents I am the World Trade Center, Freezepop, and Paper Lions, a KinderCore Records Showcase. These rock and funk groups have a playful, dance-floor groove that will get you moving this Wednesday night.
    Doors open at 9:30 p.m. All ages.
    Admission: $5-$8 (sliding scale)

    Thursday, April 22nd
    Book Reading with Loolwa Khazzoom
    Loolwa Khazzoom is an author and educator who recently published a ground-breaking anthology of writings by Jewish women of Middle Eastern and North African heritage. Join the author for an intimate reading from her new book "The Flying Camel." Please click here.

    Friday, April 23rd
    Brazilian Samba de Gafieira & Forro Workshop: 8:00- 9:30 p.m.
    Juliana Melo, known for her success in uniting this Brazilian artist community, will host a Brazilian dance workshop. The best way to describe Samba de Gafieira is "Salsa meets Tango." It has the elegance and sensuality of Tango, but it is more relaxed and the dance steps are similar to Salsa. Forro is an easy to learn dance that is very popular in Brazil & New England.

    This event is part of Fiesta Fridays, a continuous effort to bring fun, cultural events to the community.

    After the Brazilian workshop, the Havana Club will host its regular Friday Fiesta, including Salsa lessons by Salsa Y Control (9:30-10:30 p.m), Rueda de Casino lessons by the Havana Club Rueda Dancers (10:30 - 11:30 p.m.), and a Latin dance (10:30 p.m. - 1 a.m.).

    Saturday, April 24th

    Annual Kung-Fu/Wushu & Fighting Tournament
    The Boston Kung-Fu Tai-Chi Institute (BKFTCI) welcomes back all Kung-Fu and Wushu students and spectators to their exciting annual competition, hosted by the BCCA. Kids and adults, ages 6 and up, can compete in open hand forms, fighting, and weapon forms categories.

    Registration begins at 1:00 p.m., and the tournament goes from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
    Competitor Admission: $25 for 1 event; $10 for each additional event
    Spectator Admission: $10/adult & $5/kids (ages 12 & under)

    Don't miss this impressive display of talent and dedication, as over 80 competitors from martial arts schools of the Greater Boston Area test their skills!

    Julia Boynton's Monthly Tap Jam
    It's time for another Tap Jam at the BCCA! Join Julia Boynton and the Zachary Kreus Trio for an evening of live music and dancing. The night starts with two classes for advanced beginner or intermediate levels, followed by a beginner/intermediate jam. They'll cap it off with another awesome showcase of some of the best tap dancers in Boston. A must see!

    After-Party Funk Fest
    Pimp Steady Productions and Snakemekaniks invite you to come join the Urban Dance Funk Fest and experience authentic urban dance, culture, and music. Come and experience the fun, positivity, and upliftment of the HIP- HOP CULTURE and URBAN DANCE in its purest form.
    Times: 10:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.
    Admission for the 4-hour jam: $10

    Sunday, April 25th
    Bopping Andre Workshops
    Join us for another Bopping Andre event, featuring lecture, demonstrations, and history on the Elusive Urban Dance Styles: Robot, Boppin, Sinbad, Animation, Strobbing, Ticking, 3D, Popping, Hitting, and Dime Stopping. We know you'll be tired from the previous night's FunkFest, but come out to the workshops to build and refine your urban/funk skills!

    Time: 2:30-5:30 p.m.
    Admission: $36 for 3-hour workshop

    Thursday, April 29th
    Thursday Night Fever
    Got Spring fever? Then join us for "Thursday Night Fever," a retro dance party with club DJ Carolisa. We'll be playing all that funky music you remember. Everyone is welcome!

    The bell-bottoms come out at 9:00 p.m. Admission is $7 and includes free munchies and a soda & juice cash bar.

    Friday, April 30th
    Mass Live Events presents "Over It"- All Ages Show
    Mass Live Events Youth Initiative presents Over It , The Matches, Brilliant Mistake , and Ice 9, a collection of local rock/punk bands. The concert will be followed by our monthly event, Electric Playground , with DJs Matty & Frank. Time: Doors at 5:00 p.m. Playground runs until 2:00 a.m.
    Admission: Sliding scale $5-$8

    Concert with Lola Danza and Mili Bermejo
    Vocalists and composers, Lola Danza and Mili Bermejo, will celebrate spring in Brookline by performing their innovative original compositions at the BCCA. Lola and Mili's compositions surpass convention by creatively exploring the fusion of jazz and world music. Their unique music tells of their personal journeys and inspirations, taking listeners along with them to experience each composer's world and vision.
    Lola performs with her six piece band: Phil Sargeant guitar, Garth Stevenson bass, Julia Deak violin, Rushad Eggleston cello and Phil Grenadier trumpet. Mili Bermejo performs with her duo project in which Dan Greenspan accompanies her on acoustic bass.
    Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m.
    Admission: $16/adults; $10/seniors
